Thank you for your interest in submitting data to the Worldwide Ocean Optics Database. We are always interested in incorporting new data sets into the database, and with a small amount of effort, you can help make this a very simple process.

Data formats which we can immediately handle
  • NODC - OCL format
  • Biospherical MER ".pac" files
  • BBOPS format
If you have data that is not in one of the above formats...
  • We still want it!! We just ask that you try to follow a few guidelines to make our lives easier.
  • We would like for the data to be in ASCII format and to be in tabular (column) format if possible
  • Please make sure that the data contains the following required parameters:
    • Year
    • Day of year (preferably in julian day format)
    • Latitude / Longitude (following the East is positive convention)
    • The data itself, in an easily readable format
    • If at all possible, documentation describing the format of the ASCII file.
  • If possible, include these other optional parameters:
    • Author/source of data
    • Time (please specify whether local or GMT time)
    • Center Wavelength of data (if applicable)
    • Bandwidth (if applicable)
    • Vertical Resolution
    • Type of instrument used
    • Type of editing performed on the data
